The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup is set to commence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3. This ninth edition of the prestigious tournament will feature ten teams, and promises thrilling cricket action across Dubai and Sharjah. The competition kicks off with Bangladesh taking on Scotland in Sharjah at 3:30 PM IST, followed by Pakistan facing Sri Lanka at the same venue at 7:30 PM IST. India begins its campaign on October 4 against New Zealand in Dubai, after West Indies square off against South Africa earlier in the day.
Australia’s Dominance
Australia enters the tournament as the reigning champions, having secured the title in the last three consecutive editions. Out of the eight tournaments held so far, Australia has emerged victorious six times, with only England and West Indies breaking their streak in 2009 and 2016 respectively. This year, the Aussies aim for their seventh title, starting with their opening game against Sri Lanka on October 5 in Sharjah.

India’s Quest for Glory
India’s women’s team has made it to the final once, in 2020, where they were defeated by Australia. With the men’s team having clinched the T20 World Cup earlier this year, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed her team’s determination to draw inspiration from their male counterparts and go all the way in this edition.
