Former cricketer Vinod Kambli, aged 52, is currently undergoing treatment at Aakriti Hospital in Thane after experiencing significant health issues over the weekend. Admitted on Saturday evening, Kambli’s condition has raised concerns as doctors revealed that his brain is “unstable” due to degenerative changes. Despite this, his vitals have stabilized, and he is expected to be discharged within 2-3 days.
Admission and Initial Symptoms
Kambli was brought to the hospital by a fan, who also owns a healthcare facility in Kalher, Thane district. Upon arrival, he exhibited symptoms such as muscle cramps, dizziness, and difficulty walking. He also had a high-grade fever and was found to be suffering from a urinary tract infection, as well as sodium and potassium deficiencies that were contributing to the cramps.
Dr. Vivek Dwivedi, who is overseeing Kambli’s treatment, shared insights into his condition:
“We admitted him to the ICU as his blood pressure was low, and a brain scan revealed old clots from a recent stroke. While his vitals are now stable, his treatment and physiotherapy are ongoing. We hope to discharge him in 2-3 days.”
Concerns About Brain Health
The most worrying aspect of Kambli’s health is the degenerative changes observed in his brain. Dr. Dwivedi emphasized the focus on rehabilitation for Kambli moving forward:
“His brain condition is not stable at the moment. We are concentrating more on rehabilitation to help him recover.”
Previous Health Challenges
Kambli has faced multiple health issues over the years, including two heart surgeries in 2013. Financial support for these procedures was provided by his close friend and legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar. Earlier this month, Kambli appeared alongside Tendulkar at Shivaji Park for the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to their late coach, Ramakant Achrekar. However, Kambli’s frail health at the event sparked concern among the cricketing fraternity.
Kambli Expresses Gratitude
Despite his current health struggles, Kambli expressed optimism and gratitude toward Tendulkar:
“I am feeling better now. I will never give up on cricket; I cherish the centuries and double centuries I’ve scored. Sachin Tendulkar’s blessings have always been with me, and for that, I am grateful.”
The cricket community continues to hope for Kambli’s recovery as he embarks on the path to rehabilitation.
