Johannesburg [South Africa]: Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav praised left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh for his exceptional ability to thrive under pressure, highlighting his game-changing performance in the fourth T20I against South Africa.

Despite a shaky start to the series, Arshdeep regained his form in the final two matches, delivering a sensational spell in the powerplay during the fourth game. After being targeted by Tristan Stubbs in the second T20I, Arshdeep bounced back brilliantly, dismantling South Africa’s top order in stunning fashion.
India had set a daunting target of 284/1, and Arshdeep ensured the hosts never got a foothold in the chase. The 25-year-old claimed three vital wickets in the first six overs, removing Reeza Hendricks, captain Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen, finishing with remarkable figures of 3/20 from three overs.
“Arshdeep has been a key player for us,” Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference. “He consistently delivers in high-pressure moments, and today was no exception. We were here last time under similar conditions, and his performance was outstanding again.”
A Masterclass in Powerplay Bowling
Arshdeep’s spell was a lesson in precision and control. Over the wicket, he bowled a perfect delivery to dismiss Hendricks. He then enticed Markram into a mistimed shot and followed it up with a brilliant inswinger to trap Klaasen in front of the stumps.
The difference in approach between the two teams was striking. While India’s batters adopted an aggressive and free-flowing strategy, South Africa struggled to find any rhythm.
Collaboration Between Bowlers and Batters
Suryakumar credited the team’s bowlers for their planning and execution, revealing that the pacers had sought advice from the batters on effective lengths to bowl on the tricky surface.
“It got colder after the lights came on, so we focused on going back to basics,” Suryakumar explained. “The bowlers had discussions with the batters about the pitch and lengths that would work. Their execution in the powerplay was incredible, and I think the game was almost sealed within the first six overs.”
Looking Ahead
With the series wrapped up, India’s young players will now shift their focus to domestic cricket, including the ongoing Ranji Trophy, to continue refining their skills. This series win further establishes the depth and promise in India’s T20 setup as they gear up for future challenges.
