Spain coach Luis de la Fuente remains steadfast in his confidence despite the challenge of facing France and their extraordinary talent, Kylian Mbappe, in Tuesday’s Euro 2024 semi-final. With five consecutive victories and 11 goals scored, Spain has been one of the most electrifying teams in the tournament. Meanwhile, France has reached this stage despite a lack of attacking flair, with their goals coming from a penalty and two own goals.
Although Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann have faced criticism for their performances, de la Fuente remains cautious, especially regarding the French captain.
“These kinds of footballers are unpredictable. You never know where they will appear, and they never disappear completely. Even at 50 percent, Kylian Mbappe could be as effective as any other player at 100 percent. A player like this can decide a game at any moment. He’s a genius, a world-class player, of which France has many.”
Despite his admiration for Mbappe, de la Fuente is confident in his own team.
“Mbappe is exceptional, but to me, my footballers are the best. Knowing their potential, we will try to minimize their strengths. I have blind faith in my team and know we are ready to win tomorrow.”
Spain midfielder Rodri is also aware of the threat posed by Mbappe, widely regarded as one of the best players in the world.
“I don’t trust what people say. I know the player he is. He can hurt any team at any time, and we will have to be aware of what he does.”
Rodri also dismissed claims that France has played dull football to reach the semi-finals.
“Some might think they are boring, but I don’t see football that way. They’re in the semi-finals, and others are not. We just want to win and play our football without focusing too much on what they do.
