Zimbabwe Names Four Uncapped Players for One-Off Test Against Ireland

Zimbabwe has announced a 15-member squad featuring four uncapped players for their upcoming one-off Test match against Ireland, set to take place in Belfast from July 25 to 29. The newcomers—Clive Madande, Brian Bennett, Joylord Gumbie, and Johnathan Campbell—will have the opportunity to showcase their talents on the international stage.

Interestingly, three of these uncapped players are also part of the T20I squad currently competing in a series against India at home. This highlights Zimbabwe’s strategy of integrating fresh talent across formats while maintaining continuity in leadership and experience.

Veteran players Craig Ervine and Sean Williams, who are not participating in the ongoing T20I series, have been retained in the Test squad, with Ervine appointed as captain. His leadership will be crucial as Zimbabwe looks to build momentum in the longer format of the game.

The fast-bowling lineup boasts significant experience, with Tendai Chatara, Blessing Muzarabani, and Richard Ngarava included in the squad. Their skills will be essential as Zimbabwe prepares for this pivotal Test, which marks the team’s first outing in the format since their home series against the West Indies in February 2023.
