Mumbai – Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has hinted at reservations among players regarding the BCCI’s newly drafted 10-point disciplinary guidelines. These policies, introduced under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir, are set to be discussed with BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.

Though the guidelines have yet to be officially announced by the BCCI, details of the policy have been circulating in the media. One key issue reportedly causing unrest among players is the restriction allowing families to join only for 14 days during long tours, with any exceptions requiring approval from the head coach.
Rohit to Address Players’ Concerns with BCCI
Before a press conference alongside chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, Rohit was overheard expressing his need to meet with the BCCI secretary to discuss players’ concerns. “I need to sit down with the secretary and discuss the family policy. Everyone is asking me about it,” he said, unintentionally revealing the team’s dissatisfaction.
When asked directly about the guidelines during the press conference, Rohit dismissed the question, saying, “Has this come from the official BCCI handle? Let’s wait for the official announcement.”
Agarkar Confirms Existence of New SOPs
Ajit Agarkar confirmed that a standard operating procedure (SOP) document has been drafted. Addressing questions about why such policies were necessary, particularly after India’s T20 World Cup success, Agarkar explained, “Every team has certain rules in place. These aren’t punishments but protocols aimed at improving the team dynamic.”
He clarified that many of these rules were already in practice but had now been formalized. “Representing the country requires discipline, and every team refines its policies over time. These rules are not new but are being adapted to suit the team’s needs,” Agarkar said.
Working Relationship Between Rohit and Gambhir
Speculations about Rohit’s equation with head coach Gautam Gambhir were also addressed. Rohit emphasized that their roles are clearly defined. “Once we step onto the field, Gambhir trusts my decisions as captain. Discussions happen off the field or in the dressing room, but on the field, I have the freedom to make tactical calls. That’s the trust we have, and that’s how it should be,” Rohit stated.
Balancing Discipline and Team Morale
While many former players believe such rules have always existed, their formal announcement has brought them into the spotlight. Agarkar concluded by highlighting the importance of discipline in maintaining the team’s focus. “Ultimately, these protocols are about representing the country with dignity. They ensure a cohesive and professional environment for all players,” he said.
The BCCI is expected to finalize and officially announce the guidelines in the coming weeks, with Rohit leading discussions to address the concerns raised by his teammates.
