Gaddafi Stadium Set for February 7 Inauguration
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reassured fans and critics alike that preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy are progressing as scheduled. He confirmed that Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will be fully renovated and ready for its official inauguration on February 7, ahead of the much-anticipated tournament, which begins on February 19.

Naqvi emphasized that despite concerns about Pakistan’s ability to host the event, the PCB has been working tirelessly to ensure all venues are completed on time. The tournament will be played across three cities—Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
Addressing Doubts and Criticism
During a media interaction at the revamped Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi took the opportunity to address skepticism surrounding Pakistan’s preparedness. He pointed out that some individuals, particularly from outside the country, had doubted whether Pakistan would be able to meet the deadlines for the stadium upgrades.
“There were people across the border and elsewhere who kept speculating that the Champions Trophy might be shifted out of Pakistan due to delays in stadium preparations. But today, I can confidently say that we are fully prepared,” Naqvi stated.
He also remarked that critics had been closely scrutinizing Pakistan’s preparations, hoping to find flaws. However, he assured that the PCB is committed to delivering a flawless tournament and that all teams will receive top-tier hospitality and security.
No Traditional Captains’ Press Conference
In a departure from tradition, the PCB has decided to forgo the customary captains’ day event, which typically includes a joint press conference and photoshoot with all participating team captains. Naqvi cited the demanding travel schedules of certain teams as the reason behind this decision.
Instead, the tournament’s official inauguration will take place in Lahore on February 16. He added that the PCB has extended invitations to officials from various cricket boards, including India, to attend matches, semifinals, and the final. However, he noted that their attendance would depend on their individual schedules.
India to Play Matches in Dubai
While Pakistan is hosting the Champions Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan due to security concerns. As a result, all of India’s matches will be played in Dubai.
With the tournament fast approaching, the PCB remains confident in delivering a well-organized event, ensuring top-class facilities for teams, officials, and fans.
