Mushtaq Ahmed Keen on reunion with Bangladesh Cricket

July 9, 2024

Bangladesh’s spin bowling consultant, Mushtaq Ahmed, expressed his interest in returning to the national team after fulfilling his current commitments. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Mushtaq ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, where his impact was evident in guiding young leg spinner Rishad Hossain, who emerged as Bangladesh’s top performer with 14 wickets.

However, Mushtaq’s decision to join England U-19s as a spin consultant on July 7 surprised many as the BCB intended to extend his contract. Mushtaq confirmed that a reunion with Bangladesh is likely after December, once his prior commitments with various teams, counties, and franchises are fulfilled.

“I’ve signed commitments as a consultant with different teams and entities, which run until the World Cup,” Mushtaq told Cricbuzz. “Negotiations with the BCB are positive, and I look forward to potentially rejoining the team.”

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury mentioned ongoing positive negotiations with Mushtaq, focusing solely on him as the spin consultant. Discussions include potential long-term arrangements until 2027, with specifics to be finalized after Mushtaq’s current commitments conclude in December.

If Mushtaq cannot allocate time before then, he may miss Bangladesh’s tours of Pakistan, India, South Africa, and the West Indies. However, he remains likely to join Bangladesh for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
