Liam Livingstone Excited for Fresh Start with RCB in IPL 2024

November 27, 2024

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone has expressed enthusiasm for his new stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. After a three-year run with Punjab Kings, where he accumulated 827 runs, Livingstone believes Bengaluru’s environment and conditions will be a better match for his dynamic playing style.

Thrilled to Join RCB

Livingstone, who debuted in the IPL in 2019 with Rajasthan Royals, was released by Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL mega auction. RCB secured the explosive batter for ₹8.75 crore after an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings.

“I can’t wait to play for RCB, especially at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is known for its high-scoring games and shorter boundaries,” Livingstone told Reuters. “The fan base is incredible. It’s one of the most passionate franchises in the IPL. This feels like a fresh start for me.”

He highlighted the advantage of playing at RCB’s home ground, saying it suits his aggressive batting style better than Punjab’s larger stadiums.

Inspired by RCB Legends

Livingstone shared his admiration for RCB’s legendary trio of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers, whom he watched growing up. Now, he looks forward to sharing the dressing room with Kohli and new teammate Phil Salt, acquired by RCB for ₹11.5 crore, as the team hunts for its maiden IPL title.

“Playing alongside Virat is going to be special. We had a strong auction, picking some great players. I’m excited to contribute to the team,” he added.

Stellar Form in T10 League

Currently representing Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Livingstone has been in sensational form. His 15-ball 50 earlier this week showcased his destructive capabilities, and he credited the T10 format for sharpening his finishing skills.

“T10 suits my role perfectly, coming in to bat with only a few balls left. It prepares me well for the rest of the year,” he explained.

Leadership Experience

Livingstone recently captained England in an ODI series against the West Indies, stepping in for injured skipper Jos Buttler. Despite England losing the series 2-1, Livingstone’s first ODI century in the second match underscored his batting prowess.

“Leading my country was a proud moment. Thankfully, I’m fit and playing the game I love,” he remarked.

Looking Ahead

Livingstone also commented on England’s preparation for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy, where Test coach Brendon McCullum will take charge of the white-ball teams.

“It’s going to be a different phase for English cricket with these changes. I’m excited to see how things unfold,” he concluded.

With Livingstone’s explosive skills and determination, RCB fans can look forward to an electrifying season as the team aims to end its title drought.
