Sanath Jayasuriya, the former Sri Lanka captain, has been appointed as their interim head coach for the upcoming home limited-overs series against India and the subsequent Test tour in England, concluding in mid-September.
Jayasuriya, who previously served as Sri Lanka men’s chief selector and cricket consultant for Sri Lanka Cricket, steps into the coaching role following Chris Silverwood’s resignation post the T20 World Cup 2024. The decision was made by the board amidst plans to advertise and consider candidates for a permanent coaching solution, possibly favoring a local coach.

Commenting on Jayasuriya’s appointment, SLC chief executive Ashley de Silva highlighted his extensive international cricketing experience, stating he is well-suited to guide the national team during this interim period.
Jayasuriya’s cricketing career saw him excel as one of Sri Lanka’s leading players, renowned for his aggressive batting style that influenced white-ball cricket significantly. He remains among the top ODI run-scorers of all time and has contributed significantly across Tests and T20Is as well.
