Imad Wasim Announces Retirement from International Cricket

December 13, 2024

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has officially retired from international cricket, concluding a nine-year career that saw him play 130 matches across ODIs and T20Is. The 35-year-old cricketer made the announcement on Friday through a heartfelt post on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

End of an Illustrious Career

Imad Wasim, known for his all-round abilities in white-ball cricket, expressed gratitude for representing Pakistan at the international level. “After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket,” he wrote. “Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honor of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable.”

Wasim also acknowledged the unwavering support of fans throughout his journey. “Your support, love, and passion have been my biggest strength. From the highs to the lows, your encouragement has pushed me to give my best for our beloved country,” he added.

A Stellar Career and Comeback

Imad was an integral part of Pakistan’s triumph in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. After stepping away from international cricket last year, his impressive performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) reignited his career, leading to his selection in the national squad for the T20 World Cup.

However, Pakistan’s campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup ended in disappointment, with the team failing to progress beyond the group stage. Imad’s final international appearance came in June 2024, during a T20 World Cup match against Ireland in Lauderhill, USA.

Career Highlights

During his international career, Imad played 75 T20Is, scoring 554 runs and claiming 73 wickets. In addition to his T20 contributions, he also made notable appearances in ODIs. Born in Swansea, Wales, Imad made his international debut in May 2015 in a T20I against Zimbabwe in Lahore.

Continuing in Domestic and Franchise Cricket

Though Imad has stepped away from international cricket, he plans to remain active in domestic and franchise leagues. “While this chapter comes to an end, I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket through domestic and franchise cricket. I hope to keep entertaining you all in new ways,” he concluded.

Imad’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in Pakistan cricket, as he leaves behind a legacy of key performances and memorable contributions.
