As the third season of the International League T20 (ILT20) enters its final and most crucial phase, legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has lauded the intense competition and high-quality performances displayed throughout the tournament.

Competitive Spirit and Diverse Playing Conditions
Sharing his insights on the ongoing season, Harbhajan expressed his admiration for the tournament’s competitiveness. He emphasized that every team has shown resilience, keeping the race for the playoffs wide open.
“The tournament has been fantastic so far, and we have witnessed some outstanding cricket. One of the best things about this league is that all teams are performing well, which keeps the competition alive,” he stated in an official ILT20 release.
Additionally, he highlighted how the playing surfaces at the three different venues have added to the excitement, making matches more unpredictable and engaging.
UAE Talent Shines: Aayan Afzal Khan in the Spotlight
While discussing standout performances, Harbhajan reserved special praise for Aayan Afzal Khan of the Gulf Giants, identifying him as a potential recipient of the Blue Belt Award for the most valuable UAE player.
“Aayan has been performing exceptionally well. I’ve been following him since the first season and have had conversations with him. As the tournament progresses and pitches get drier, spinners will play a crucial role, making it even more exciting,” he remarked.
Desert Vipers: A Well-Rounded Title Contender
Focusing on the Desert Vipers, the first team to secure a spot in the playoffs, Harbhajan praised their all-round strength. He acknowledged their well-balanced squad, with an impressive bowling attack led by Mohammad Amir and Lockie Ferguson, complemented by a powerful batting lineup.
“From the matches I’ve watched and worked on, the Desert Vipers seem like a formidable team. They have a lethal bowling unit and explosive batters. In my opinion, they are strong contenders for the title,” he asserted.
Predictions for Top Performers
Harbhajan also shared his predictions for the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker of the season. He highlighted the exceptional form of Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mohammad Amir, both of whom have been consistent wicket-takers.
“Both Farooqi and Amir have been outstanding with the ball, taking wickets regularly. I believe one of them could end up as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker. As for the batting charts, players like Shai Hope and Tom Banton have performed well, but the second phase of the tournament is still underway. I expect more players to step up and deliver match-winning performances,” he noted.
Future of ILT20 and UAE Cricket
Looking ahead, Harbhajan expressed optimism about the growth of ILT20 and its impact on UAE cricket. He suggested that the number of UAE players in each team, currently at two, could increase in the coming seasons as local talent continues to develop.
“This league is crucial for the future of UAE cricket. Right now, each team has two UAE players, but I foresee this number growing to three or four in the future as their players improve and gain more experience,” he concluded.
With the tournament heading into its final stretch, fans can expect more thrilling performances and intense battles as teams vie for the prestigious ILT20 championship.
