India secured a memorable T20I series win against South Africa with a record-breaking performance at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The match featured standout centuries from Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson, who created history by forming the highest partnership for any wicket in T20Is, scoring 210 runs together. Their efforts propelled India to a staggering 283/1, ensuring a dominant victory.

Tilak and Samson became the first duo from Full Member nations to score centuries in the same T20I innings. Following their stunning display, both players were interviewed by Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) in a post-match interaction for BCCI.tv.
Tilak Reflects on His Performance
During the interview, Suryakumar asked Tilak about his emotions after achieving back-to-back centuries—his first coming at Centurion and the second in Johannesburg. The 22-year-old expressed gratitude to his captain and the team for their trust and opportunities.
“Right now, I’m overwhelmed with emotions. I’m truly thankful for the opportunity given by the team. Scoring back-to-back hundreds, especially in T20s and against a tough South African side, feels surreal,” Tilak shared.
Suryakumar’s Witty Response
Not one to let the moment pass without humor, Suryakumar quipped that Tilak should thank the selectors instead of him.
“He’s being too modest with his thanks. No need to thank me, thank the selectors!” said Suryakumar, sparking laughter among himself, Tilak, and Samson.
Tilak’s Growing Legacy
Despite his young age, Tilak has already amassed considerable experience, having played 20 T20Is and four ODIs for India. His unbeaten 120 at the Wanderers boosted his T20I batting average to over 50, coupled with an impressive strike rate of 161.25.
While Tilak’s gratitude may be aimed at his captain, the selectors’ decision to back him has undeniably paid off. His consistent performances in a high-stakes series against South Africa have established him as a reliable force in India’s middle order.
A New Focus: Border-Gavaskar Trophy
With the T20I series concluded, India now shifts its focus to the Test format, with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy set to begin on November 22 in Perth. Fans will be hopeful that the confidence gained from the T20 series will translate into success in the longer format.
