Coco Gauff to Make History as Youngest U.S. Flag Bearer at Paris Olympics

July 24, 2024

Coco Gauff will make history as the youngest U.S. flag bearer at the Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony, surpassing the previous record held by Cindy Nelson. The 20-year-old tennis star, selected by her U.S. Olympic teammates, will be the first tennis player to carry the U.S. flag at either an opening or closing ceremony.

Gauff’s Remarkable Achievements Leading to Historic Honor

Currently ranked No. 2 in the world, Gauff has recently won her first Grand Slam titles in singles and doubles. Her achievements include becoming the youngest American to win a Grand Slam singles title at the 2023 U.S. Open and securing the women’s doubles title at the French Open in June.

Gauff’s Olympic Journey

Although she was part of the Tokyo Olympic team, Gauff had to withdraw after testing positive for Covid-19. She will now lead Team USA at the Paris Olympics, alongside NBA star LeBron James, who will be the male flag bearer.
