Australia Confident in Pink-Ball Record Ahead of Second Test Against India: Alex Carey

December 3, 2024

Melbourne – As Australia prepares to face India in the second Test of the five-match series at the Adelaide Oval, wicketkeeper Alex Carey expressed confidence in his team’s exceptional track record in day-night Test matches. Following a 295-run defeat to India in the Perth opener, the hosts are banking on their past pink-ball success to stage a comeback.

Australia’s Pink-Ball Dominance

Australia has an impressive history in day-night Tests, winning 11 of the 12 matches they’ve played under lights, including an unblemished 7-0 record at Adelaide Oval. Their last pink-ball Test win at the venue came against India during the 2020 series, where they bowled out Virat Kohli’s team for a mere 36 runs—their lowest Test score.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Carey highlighted the team’s confidence stemming from their strong record.
“We’re excited. We draw a lot of confidence from our record in pink-ball cricket,” Carey said. “It doesn’t guarantee success, but our methods, style of play, and the experience in this group give us the belief to bounce back from Perth.

“India will also come into this game with confidence, so it promises to be a great contest,” he added.

Concerns Over Mitchell Marsh’s Fitness

One concern for Australia heading into the Adelaide Test is the fitness of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh. The player, who bowled 17 overs in Perth, reportedly pulled up sore after the match. Despite speculation in the media about Marsh potentially playing as a specialist batsman, uncapped all-rounder Beau Webster has been brought into the squad as a precaution.

Carey shared optimism about Marsh’s availability.
“His batting has been fantastic since rejoining the team, and his bowling has provided us with crucial breakthroughs. I haven’t heard anything to suggest he won’t be ready to play,” Carey stated.

India and Australia Gear Up for a Showdown

While Australia is counting on their pink-ball prowess to level the series, India will look to build on their dominant performance in Perth. The second Test, set to begin on Friday, promises an enthralling contest as both teams aim to take a pivotal step in the series.
