Arsenal have secured the signing of Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna on a long-term contract, the Premier League club announced on Monday.
While the exact fee remains undisclosed, British media reports suggest that Calafiori, 22, has joined the Emirates Stadium on a five-year deal worth £42 million ($54 million) following his performances at Euro 2024.
“We welcome Riccardo and his family to Arsenal,” said Gunners manager Mikel Arteta. “He is a great signing and adds significant strength to our defense. Riccardo is a big personality with specific skills that will make us stronger as we aim to win major trophies. His development in recent seasons with Bologna and Italy has been impressive, and we look forward to working with him and supporting his integration into the squad.”
Calafiori becomes Arsenal’s second major signing of the summer transfer window, following the permanent move of David Raya from London rivals Brentford. The Gunners aim to build on their successful 2024/25 season, where they finished just two points behind Premier League champions Manchester City.
