Unstoppable Australia Clinches Comprehensive Series Win

Australia created history by securing a 16-0 clean sweep in the Women’s Ashes, capping off their dominant run with a resounding innings and 122-run victory over England in the one-off Test in Melbourne on Saturday.

Having already whitewashed England in both the three-match ODI and T20I series last month, the defending champions proved their superiority once again in the red-ball format, making them the first team to achieve a perfect 16-0 series triumph in the multi-format Ashes.

Alana King Stars as Australia Thrives Under Pressure

Reflecting on the incredible achievement, Player of the Series Alana King expressed her pride in the team’s resilience and performance.

“16-0 has a nice ring to it. Very proud of the girls. We had our backs against the wall at times but stuck to our plans and wanted to entertain the crowd. Always happy to raise my hand with the ball,” said King.

England Struggles Against Australia’s Dominance

England, batting first in the Test match, managed just 170 runs in their first innings. In response, Australia put up a commanding 440, thanks to centuries from Annabel Sutherland and Beth Mooney.

On Day 3, England showed some fight, taking five Australian wickets for just nine runs in the morning session, but they still trailed by 270 runs. Their second innings crumbled under pressure, with Alana King’s brilliant 5 for 53 ensuring they were bowled out for 148, sealing Australia’s emphatic win.

England Captain Acknowledges Australia’s Brilliance

Despite the tough defeat, England skipper Heather Knight praised Australia’s performance while acknowledging her team’s struggles.

“Congratulations to Australia, they played some amazing cricket and capitalized on their advantages. It has been a tough tour, but we competed at times,” Knight said.

She also highlighted Lauren Bell’s impressive efforts in the Test match, while commending her bowlers for their persistence despite challenging conditions.

Alyssa Healy Reflects on a Special Series

Australia captain Alyssa Healy expressed her joy over the team’s performance and the incredible experience of playing at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which set a record for women’s Test match attendance.

“The whole series was fantastic, playing in some of the best stadiums and having the crowds back was incredible. Playing three days at the MCG was really special,” Healy said.

She also acknowledged the contributions of the entire squad, thanking the 13-14 players who played a role in the historic Ashes campaign.

With this 16-0 clean sweep, Australia has further solidified its dominance in women’s cricket, setting a benchmark for future multi-format series.
