Team India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, recently shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma’s iconic stump mic moments, which have often gone viral. Surya, who took over the captaincy after Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is following India’s triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, has no intention of competing with Rohit in this unique aspect of the game.

Rohit, who continues to lead the Indian team in ODIs and Tests, has earned a reputation for his hilarious and candid stump mic remarks during matches. Speaking on Star Sports, Suryakumar stated that he consciously avoids stepping into that territory.
“I try to stay away from the stumps. If something is someone’s specialty, it’s better to let them keep it,” Suryakumar said.
Reflecting on Rohit’s humorous style, he added, “When we’re roaming in the garden, you get to hear those iconic lines. But I don’t feel the need to tell players not to roam around because no one does anyway.”
The Leadership Transition Post Rohit and Kohli
Suryakumar has smoothly transitioned into the leadership role, guiding Team India through a crucial rebuilding phase. Following the retirements of legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from T20Is, Surya has brought a refreshing energy to the team.
Under his captaincy, young talents such as Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy have flourished, while seasoned players like Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, and Hardik Pandya have provided stability and experience.
When asked about his experience as captain, Surya explained that he enjoys the role without feeling overwhelmed. “It’s fun. It’s just an added responsibility. I’m still doing what I was doing before, but now there’s a little extra attached to it. Nothing major has changed.”
A Blend of Fun and Focus
Suryakumar’s positive approach to leadership has created an environment of enjoyment and learning in the squad. His emphasis on teamwork and individual growth has laid a strong foundation for the team’s future.
As Rohit Sharma continues to entertain fans with his on-field antics in ODIs and Tests, Suryakumar Yadav is carving his own legacy in the shortest format, balancing his responsibilities with effortless charm.
