The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allocated approximately PKR 12 billion for extensive renovations at National Stadium Karachi (NSK), Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, and Rawalpindi Stadium in preparation for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. While significant upgrades have been made, ongoing construction work raises concerns about whether the venues will be fully ready in time for the tournament, which begins on February 19.

Renovations Near Completion
The PCB is set to take possession of the revamped stadiums in Karachi and Lahore on February 5, just two weeks before the event’s opening match. The renovated venues will first be tested during a tri-series involving Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand before hosting Champions Trophy games.
Despite concerns about pending work, Arshad Khan, General Manager of NSK, assured that all renovations would be completed by the end of January, allowing the PCB to officially take control on schedule.
Major Upgrades at Karachi, Lahore, and Pindi
Both NSK and Gaddafi Stadium have undergone significant transformations to meet international standards. Here’s a breakdown of the improvements:
National Stadium Karachi (NSK)
- New Five-Story Building:
A modern structure is nearing completion, featuring ICC Anti-Corruption and Anti-Doping units, physio rooms, and match officials’ rooms on the ground floor. The second floor includes newly designed dressing rooms with advanced amenities for players. - Corporate and Hospitality Enhancements:
NSK now boasts 24 additional corporate boxes with a capacity of up to 1,000 guests. The fifth floor of the building will house the Chairman’s Box and administration offices. - Spectator Facilities:
Upgrades include new folding chairs, increased seating capacity, improved washroom facilities, and a pedestrian bridge to ease entry into the stadium. - Lighting and Training Facilities:
Two digital scoreboards and six new poles with LED floodlights have been installed for enhanced visibility during day and night matches. Outdoor practice nets have also been equipped with floodlights.
Gaddafi Stadium Lahore
- Modern Infrastructure:
A newly constructed building mirrors the improvements at NSK, with upgraded dressing rooms, match officials’ facilities, and corporate areas. - Enhanced Spectator Experience:
Similar upgrades to seating, washrooms, and access points have been made to ensure a world-class experience for fans attending the Champions Trophy matches.
A Step Forward for Pakistan Cricket
These upgrades mark a significant improvement in Pakistan’s cricketing infrastructure. With modern facilities, enhanced player amenities, and improved spectator experiences, the PCB aims to deliver a successful Champions Trophy.
While the renovations are ambitious, all eyes are on the PCB to ensure the venues are fully operational in time for the global event. If completed as planned, these stadiums will set a new benchmark for hosting international cricket in Pakistan.
