India’s Historic Victory in Perth

The Perth Test during the 2007-08 Australia tour was monumental for Indian cricket. Although India lost the series 2-1, they became the first and only Asian team to secure a Test win at the iconic WACA ground in Perth.

India batted first, scoring 330 runs, with crucial contributions from Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Australian pacers Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee delivered strong performances, but India managed to build a competitive total.

In response, India’s young pacers, RP Singh and Ishant Sharma, dismantled the Australian batting lineup, restricting them to 212 runs. Andrew Symonds and Adam Gilchrist provided resistance, but Australia still trailed by 118 runs.

India’s second innings featured a composed 79 from VVS Laxman, supported by a valuable partnership with MS Dhoni. Contributions from Irfan Pathan and Virender Sehwag helped India set a daunting target of 413 runs for the hosts.

During Australia’s chase, Michael Clarke and Mitchell Johnson scored half-centuries, but the Indian bowlers, led by Irfan Pathan, delivered a stellar performance. Australia was bowled out for 340 runs, and India won by 72 runs.
