In response to India’s disappointing performances in recent Test series, including a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and an unprecedented 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a stringent 10-point policy. These measures aim to foster discipline, unity, and professionalism within the Indian cricket team.

Domestic Cricket Now Mandatory for National Selection
To address concerns about players neglecting domestic cricket, the BCCI has made participation in tournaments like the Ranji Trophy mandatory. According to the new policy, players must feature in domestic matches to remain eligible for national selection and retain their central contracts. This move comes amid criticism that key batters, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, prioritized international and franchise commitments over domestic cricket, impacting the team’s batting performances.
Strict Rules for Overseas Tours
The BCCI has introduced tighter regulations regarding overseas tours. Players will now only be allowed a two-week window for family visits during tours and must travel with the team to matches and practice sessions. Individual travel arrangements involving family members are strictly prohibited.
Additionally, players will no longer be allowed to take personal staff, such as managers, chefs, or security personnel, unless explicitly approved by the board. These measures aim to maintain team unity and eliminate potential distractions.
Endorsement Restrictions During Series
To ensure players remain focused on cricket, the BCCI has banned personal endorsements or promotional shoots during series or tours. However, players are required to participate in official BCCI promotional activities and shoots. This step seeks to prioritize team responsibilities over individual commitments.
Disciplinary Actions for Non-Compliance
The BCCI has warned of strict consequences for those who violate these guidelines. Non-compliance could lead to severe penalties, including being barred from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The policy also allows the board to deduct retainer amounts or match fees under the BCCI Player Contract.
Approval from Key Officials Required
Any exceptions to the new rules must be pre-approved by the Chairman of the Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar, and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. The BCCI’s policy document emphasizes that all players are expected to adhere to these protocols to maintain professional standards and operational efficiency.
By implementing these measures, the BCCI aims to rebuild discipline, promote team cohesion, and ensure a stronger focus on performance as India prepares for future challenges on the cricket field.
