Sitanshu Kotak, a former Saurashtra stalwart and seasoned coach, is reportedly set to be named India’s batting coach. Kotak is expected to join a coaching team led by Gautam Gambhir, with Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate serving as assistant coaches and Morne Morkel as the bowling coach. The team will convene in Kolkata on January 18 for a three-day camp ahead of their five-match T20I series against England, during which Kotak is anticipated to assume his new role.
A Stellar Domestic Career
Kotak had a remarkable domestic cricket career, representing Saurashtra for over two decades. Making his debut in the 1992/93 season, he played 130 first-class matches, amassing 8,061 runs at an impressive average of 41.76, including 15 centuries and 55 half-centuries. In List A cricket, Kotak featured in 89 matches, scoring 3,083 runs at an average of 42.23, with three centuries and 26 half-centuries.
Despite his impressive domestic record, Kotak never represented India internationally. He was known for his technical proficiency and resilience, often playing long, determined innings for his team.
Coaching Credentials
Kotak has built a reputation as one of India’s most reliable coaches. Since 2019, he has been a key figure in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) setup, working closely with the India A and Under-19 teams. His association with VVS Laxman’s coaching staff during Laxman’s stints as interim head coach has further solidified his coaching credentials.
