The move comes after a 1-3 series defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a home Test loss to New Zealand, sparking concerns about the team’s batting performance and coaching structure.
Discussions to Strengthen Coaching Staff
According to a Cricbuzz report, discussions within the BCCI and team management have highlighted the need to bolster the support staff, particularly in the batting department. While no official announcement has been made, a few prominent former domestic cricketers are said to be under consideration for the role.
Currently, Team India’s coaching staff includes Gautam Gambhir as head coach, Morne Morkel as bowling coach, T Dilip as fielding coach, and Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches. However, the batting performances of key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have come under scrutiny, prompting calls for a specialist batting mentor to address recurring issues.
Concerns Over Kohli and Rohit’s Form
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, integral to India’s batting lineup, have struggled to find consistency in recent matches.
