Kapil Dev’s Witty Response to Yograj Singh’s Controversial ‘Pistol’ Remark

January 14, 2025

Kapil Dev, India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain, recently gave a sharp and witty response when asked about Yograj Singh’s controversial remark that has taken social media by storm. Yograj, the father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, had previously shared an incident where he claimed he once considered taking drastic action against Kapil.

Kapil Dev Shrugs Off the Drama

Kapil Dev was spotted attending an event when paparazzi approached him with questions about Yograj Singh’s viral comments. In a video circulating online, the legendary all-rounder seemed unfazed and responded with humor.

“Kaun hai? Kaun hai? Kiski baat kar rahe ho? (Who is he? Who is he? Whom are you talking about?),” Kapil quipped, leaving the photographers amused. When one of them clarified, “Yograj Singh. Yuvraj Singh’s father,” Kapil calmly replied, “Acchaa, aur kuch? (Oh, anything else?)” before moving on.

Yograj Singh’s Allegations Against Kapil Dev

Yograj Singh made the controversial statements during an interview on the show Unfiltered by Samdish. He recalled his frustration after being dropped from the Indian team by Kapil Dev, who was the captain at the time.

“When Kapil Dev became the captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me without any reason. My wife insisted I confront him, and I decided to teach him a lesson,” Yograj said.

He further claimed that he once went to Kapil Dev’s house with a pistol in hand, intending to harm him. “I took my pistol and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him several times and told him, ‘Because of you, I lost a friend. What you’ve done, you’ll pay for it.’ I wanted to put a bullet through his head but refrained because of his pious mother standing there,” Yograj revealed.

Lingering Grievances

Yograj Singh also admitted that he hasn’t spoken to Kapil Dev since the incident. Reflecting on their strained relationship, he said, “In 2011, when India won the World Cup, Kapil Dev was the only one crying. I even sent him a newspaper clipping saying, ‘My son did better than you in the World Cup.’”

He added that Kapil reached out with a message, saying they might be brothers in their next lives. “Kapil sent me a WhatsApp text saying we’ll be born from the same mother in the next life. He wanted to meet me, but there’s still a sense of vengeance, and it continues to hurt,” Yograj concluded.

The Legacy of Two Cricketers

Despite the controversy, both Kapil Dev and Yograj Singh remain integral parts of Indian cricket history. While Kapil’s achievements as a player and captain are legendary, Yograj’s legacy endures through his son Yuvraj Singh, who played a key role in India’s 2011 World Cup victory.
