The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has turned down KL Rahul’s request for a break from the upcoming ODI series against England. This decision comes as part of preparations for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on February 19.
Initial Decision to Rest Rahul Reversed
Rahul, who has been a key figure in India’s middle order and serves as a wicketkeeper in ODIs, had requested to skip the entire white-ball series against England following a demanding Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Initially, the selectors had agreed to rest him. However, according to a report published by The Times of India, the selection committee reconsidered and decided to include him in the three-match ODI series starting February 6.
The move is aimed at ensuring Rahul gains sufficient match practice ahead of the Champions Trophy, especially as he is seen as India’s preferred wicketkeeper-batsman in ODIs.
