Aryna Sabalenka Sets Sights on Third Consecutive Australian Open Title

December 26, 2024

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has declared herself “fresh and ready” as she aims to make history by securing a third straight Australian Open singles title. The 26-year-old, who enjoyed a stellar 2024 season, is determined to elevate her game and build on her recent successes.

A Stellar 2024 Season

Sabalenka’s incredible 2024 campaign saw her compete in seven finals, claiming four titles, including a dominant performance at the US Open. She kickstarted the year by defending her Australian Open crown, defeating China’s rising star Zheng Qinwen in the final. If she triumphs again in Melbourne, Sabalenka will join an elite group, becoming the first woman since Martina Hingis (1997–1999) to win three consecutive titles at the Australian Open.

“I feel fresh and ready to go,” Sabalenka shared in an interview published on the WTA website, as she arrived in Australia to compete in the Brisbane International. “I love Australia. I always come here hungry and motivated. The support from the fans is incredible, and it creates such an amazing atmosphere for tennis.”

Preparing for Another Grand Slam Run

Sabalenka’s 2024 journey began in Brisbane, where she advanced to the final without dropping a set before being defeated by Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina. She used the off-season to recharge at her Florida home and later headed to the Middle East for intensive training to fine-tune her skills ahead of the Australian swing.

Reflecting on her preparation, Sabalenka said, “The pre-season is the time to work hard and focus on improving various aspects of your game. The tournaments leading up to the Grand Slam are crucial for testing these adjustments and identifying what works best.”

Always Room for Improvement

Despite her status as the world’s top player, Sabalenka remains grounded and acknowledges the areas where she can still improve.

“There’s always something to work on,” she admitted. “For example, my net game in singles could be better, and I’m constantly trying to improve my touch shots. Even my serve isn’t exactly where I want it to be yet. The journey of self-improvement never stops.”

Hungry for More Success

Sabalenka’s passion for the sport and her commitment to growth underline her relentless pursuit of excellence. As the Australian Open approaches, all eyes will be on the Belarusian to see if she can etch her name in the history books once again.

With her determination, talent, and a supportive Australian fanbase, Aryna Sabalenka is poised to deliver another unforgettable performance in Melbourne.
