New Delhi: Punjab Kings’ record-breaking signing, Shreyas Iyer, has expressed immense enthusiasm about joining the franchise and is determined to make an immediate impact. Iyer, who was acquired for ₹26.75 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, aims to lead Punjab Kings to their first-ever IPL title.
The star Indian cricketer has had an exceptional season, achieving significant milestones across formats. Earlier this year, Iyer was part of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy-winning team, marking their 42nd title. He also captained Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL victory and played a crucial role in Mumbai clinching the Irani Cup. Most recently, he led Mumbai to their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) win this season.
“Winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was surreal,” Iyer said in a video posted on Punjab Kings’ official social media channels. “It was the result of immense hard work behind the scenes. The team delivered exceptional performances, and now we’re ready to move on to the next challenge.”
With his focus now firmly on the IPL, Iyer is eager to replicate his success with Punjab Kings. The 30-year-old cricketer expressed his excitement at joining the franchise and his ambition to deliver right from the first match.
“I am super excited to be a part of Punjab Kings,” he stated. “Joining this team is a huge honor, and my main goal is to bring home the IPL trophy for Punjab. It’s been a phenomenal year for me with four major titles, and I want to continue this momentum.”
Iyer is also looking forward to reuniting with Ricky Ponting, Punjab Kings’ newly appointed head coach. The two share a strong working relationship from their earlier IPL collaborations, and Iyer is optimistic about the partnership’s potential to deliver success for the franchise.
