The second Test between India and Australia at Adelaide turned heated during the 25th over of Australia’s innings. A confrontation between Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj and Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne grabbed attention, adding intensity to the pink-ball encounter.

The Incident
Labuschagne pulled away from his stance at the last moment, citing a distraction caused by a spectator holding multiple cups in his eyeline. Siraj, already in his bowling stride, was visibly frustrated by the late withdrawal. In a moment of anger, the Indian pacer hurled the ball wide of the stumps and followed it up with an audible expletive directed at the batter.
The situation escalated as both players exchanged gestures, displaying their displeasure. While Labuschagne’s withdrawal was justified due to the distraction, Siraj’s irritation was also understandable, as stopping mid-stride could have led to injury.
Play Resumes
After the brief confrontation, the game continued. On the very next delivery, Labuschagne silenced the tension with a confident boundary off Siraj’s bowling. The Indian pacer completed his over but walked back to his position clearly still agitated by the incident.
Mitchell Starc Shines with the Ball
Earlier in the day, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc delivered a brilliant spell, taking six wickets to bowl India out for a mere 180 runs in their first innings. Speaking about his performance, Starc said, “The ball has been coming out well. We weren’t at our best in Perth, but it’s good to start strong here.”
Starc also noted the unpredictable nature of the pink ball, adding, “It goes through phases—sometimes it doesn’t do much, and other times it comes alive. The grass helped early on, but it might dry out as the match progresses.”
India’s Batting Struggles
India’s innings was highlighted by a few notable contributions, including a 42-run knock by Nitish Kumar Reddy, which helped the team cross 150. KL Rahul (37) and Shubman Gill (31) also made starts but failed to convert them into big scores.
Apart from Starc’s six-wicket haul, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland chipped in with two wickets each, ensuring India’s batting lineup was kept in check.
Looking Ahead
As emotions continue to run high, both teams will need to maintain composure as the Test progresses. With Australia in control after a strong Day 1 performance, India will look to regroup and mount a fightback on Day 2.
