Shahzaib Khan’s Heroic 159 Guides Pakistan U19 to Victory Over India in Asia Cup Thriller

November 30, 2024

A sensational knock of 159 by Shahzaib Khan led Pakistan U19 to a commanding 43-run victory over India U19 in a Group-A encounter of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. The opener’s masterclass, spanning 147 balls and featuring five boundaries and 10 towering sixes, anchored Pakistan to a formidable total of 281 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.

Shahzaib’s efforts were bolstered by a vital 160-run partnership with Usman Khan, who contributed a steady 60 off 94 deliveries. This foundation allowed Pakistan to build momentum, with Shahzaib adding another crucial 71 runs for the third wicket alongside Muhammad Riazullah, who chipped in with 27 runs.

India’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Samarth Nagaraj, who took 3 for 45, while Ayush Mhatre provided support with a tight spell of 2 for 30.

India’s Chase Falls Short

Chasing 282, India got off to a shaky start, losing key wickets early and slumping to 81 for four within the first 15 overs. Pakistan’s Ali Raza played a pivotal role in dismantling India’s top order, claiming 3 for 36 in his nine overs.

The much-anticipated Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old prodigy purchased by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, was dismissed for just one run. A valiant 67 off 77 balls by Nikhil Kumar offered some resistance, with contributions from Harvansh Pangalia (26) and Kiran Chormale (20). However, the target proved too steep, as India were bowled out for 238 in 47.1 overs. Abdul Subhan and Faham-ul-Haq claimed two wickets each to seal the win for Pakistan.

Player of the Match: Shahzaib Khan

Shahzaib’s phenomenal innings earned him the Player of the Match accolade. His ability to anchor the innings while accelerating when required proved decisive in Pakistan’s win.
