Hardik Pandya continued his sensational form in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) with another jaw-dropping display of power-hitting. The Baroda all-rounder delivered a quickfire 47 off just 23 balls to secure a dominant seven-wicket win against Tripura at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Pandya’s Stunning Assault
Chasing a modest target of 110, Pandya’s blitzkrieg included five massive sixes and three boundaries, dismantling the Tripura bowling attack. His explosive innings reached its peak in a single over against left-arm spinner P Sultan, where he scored a staggering 28 runs. The over went: 6, 0, 6, 6, 4, 6, showcasing Pandya’s dominance and fearless stroke play.
Baroda wrapped up the chase in just 11.2 overs, thanks to Pandya’s fireworks, cementing their strong position in the tournament.
Consistency in Carnage
This wasn’t the first time Pandya wreaked havoc in the SMAT this season. Earlier in the competition, he blasted 69 off 30 balls against Tamil Nadu, taking 29 runs off a single over bowled by Gurjapneet Singh, which included four consecutive sixes. His consistency has been remarkable, with other standout performances such as 41 off 21 balls against Uttarakhand and a breathtaking 74 off 35 balls against Gujarat.
Pandya’s ability to dominate bowlers and turn games around within a few overs has made him one of the most dangerous batters in India’s domestic T20 circuit.
A Key Player for Baroda
Playing under the captaincy of his elder brother Krunal Pandya, Hardik has been a linchpin for Baroda in this year’s SMAT. His contributions with the bat have energized the team’s campaign and positioned Baroda as one of the most formidable sides in the competition.
After a significant break from domestic cricket, Pandya’s return has not only bolstered Baroda’s batting lineup but also reaffirmed his standing as a key player in India’s T20 setup.
Looking Ahead
With no T20 internationals scheduled until January 2025, Pandya has likely concluded his national duties for 2024. This year saw him playing a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup victory in June. Despite being seen as a strong candidate to succeed Rohit Sharma as India’s T20I captain, the BCCI chose Suryakumar Yadav for the role, leaving Pandya’s leadership aspirations in limbo.
For now, Pandya remains focused on domestic cricket, where his fiery performances continue to captivate fans and opponents alike.
