Prithvi Shaw, the young Indian cricketer, may not currently feature in the national team, but he has plenty of memories from his time in the Indian dressing room. One such unforgettable incident was a prank played on him by former Indian captain Virat Kohli. Shaw recently shared the humorous story during an interview on the Focused Indian YouTube channel, where he also provided a glimpse of his home.

The Washroom Prank
Shaw recounted the moment that left him both confused and amused. “It was during a match against England. I was sitting in the dressing room with Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami. I wasn’t playing in that match, and we were near the washroom area since we couldn’t hear much of the action from there,” Shaw began.
“Virat bhai entered the washroom, looked at me, and asked, ‘What are you doing here? Don’t you know a wicket has fallen?’ Before I could process anything, he told me to check outside immediately.”
Shaw continued, laughing at the memory, “I rushed out to the field, thinking I had missed something important. But when I got there, I realized lunch had been called 10 minutes earlier, and there wasn’t a single soul on the ground. I came back and told him, and he laughed, saying, ‘You forgot lunch was on?’”
Kohli’s Lighter Side
Reflecting on the dressing room atmosphere, Shaw praised Kohli’s ability to balance seriousness on the field with a relaxed attitude off it. “On the field, Virat bhai is incredibly focused, but off it, he’s very easygoing. He enjoys having fun, especially with Rohit Sharma. Together, they often joke around with the younger players, making the environment lighthearted and enjoyable.”
Shaw’s Journey: A Roller Coaster Ride
Prithvi Shaw, who made a dream start to his Test career with a debut century against Bangladesh, has faced his share of ups and downs. After being part of India’s infamous 36 all-out collapse at Adelaide, Shaw struggled with his form and technique, leading to his exclusion from the Test side.
His career trajectory has been marred by criticisms regarding discipline and consistency, coupled with challenges in his personal life. The nadir came when he went unsold during the IPL 2025 auction, a shocking development for someone of his talent. Shaw had earlier impressed during his stint with the Delhi Capitals, particularly forming a strong opening partnership with Shikhar Dhawan. However, a fallout with then-coach Ricky Ponting and subsequent performances led to his decline.
Looking Ahead
Despite his setbacks, Shaw’s immense talent remains undeniable. His tales of camaraderie with cricketing legends like Kohli and Sharma offer a glimpse into his cherished memories of representing India. As he continues to work on rebuilding his career, fans and cricket enthusiasts hope to see him reclaim his place on the international stage.
