England has drafted uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Ollie Robinson into their squad for the remainder of the three-match Test series against New Zealand. Robinson replaces Jordan Cox, who was ruled out after fracturing his thumb during a warm-up match in Queenstown. The injury left England short of wicketkeeping options, with Ollie Pope stepping in to don the gloves for the first Test in Christchurch, as regular keeper Jamie Smith is on paternity leave.

Robinson, who shares a name but no relation with England’s fast bowler Ollie Robinson, is now in line for a potential Test debut. He is expected to join the team ahead of the second Test in Wellington, starting on December 6.
The 25-year-old has been a standout performer in the County Championship. In 2024, Robinson has amassed 1,038 runs in 16 matches, averaging 43.25 with a strike rate of 81.60. His season includes two centuries, seven fifties, and a top score of 198. His 2023 campaign was even more remarkable, with 931 runs in 14 matches at an average of 58.18 and a strike rate of 88.66, highlighted by three centuries, five fifties, and a best score of 167*.
In addition to his batting credentials, Robinson has proven reliable behind the stumps, with 92 dismissals over the past two seasons. He was also set to tour Australia with the England Lions early next year, reflecting his growing reputation in domestic cricket.
The first Test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch has already begun, with England opting to field after winning the toss.
