Rohit Sharma Joins Indian Squad, Prepares for Adelaide Pink-Ball Test

November 25, 2024

India captain Rohit Sharma wasted no time getting into the action as he hit the nets to prepare for the highly anticipated day-night Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Rohit, who missed the series opener in Perth, joined the team ahead of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to begin on December 6.

Rohit Sharma Arrives in Perth

Rohit arrived in Perth on Monday and was seen in the dressing room alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir during the fourth day of the first Test at the Optus Stadium. The skipper had stayed back in Mumbai to be with his family after the birth of his second child, a baby boy. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah took charge as captain for the series opener.

Hitting the Nets Immediately

Soon after landing, the 38-year-old was seen practicing with the pink ball in the nets. Rohit focused on forward defensive shots before unleashing his trademark pull shot, demonstrating his sharpness and readiness for the day-night contest.

Observations from David Warner

Former Australian opener David Warner, now a commentator for Fox Cricket, watched Rohit’s net session and praised his form. “Just during the lunch break here, we have the captain of India, Rohit Sharma. He just arrived and is looking nice and sharp against his fellow countrymen in the nets,” Warner said.

Facing Mukesh Kumar and Spinners

Rohit faced Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar, part of the touring reserves, during his practice session. He also practiced sweep shots against spinners, honing his technique for the pink-ball challenge. Warner commented on the session, saying, “Mukesh Kumar sent down a nice delivery. Great to see the captain here. We’re looking forward to seeing him out in the park here in Australia.”

Rohit’s Preparation Plans

The Indian captain is set to feature in a two-day practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra, starting November 30. This pink-ball warm-up game will serve as crucial preparation for the second Test in Adelaide.

The Upcoming Adelaide Test

The second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played at the Adelaide Oval from December 6. With Rohit’s return, India will hope to bounce back and level the series against a strong Australian side.
