London [UK]: Carl Hopkinson and Richard Dawson, two key members of England’s white-ball coaching staff, have concluded their roles following the end of England’s Caribbean tour.
The duo played integral roles during England’s successful T20I series against the West Indies, which the visitors won 3-1. Their departure marks a transitional phase for the team as Brendon McCullum continues to oversee England’s coaching overhaul across all formats.

Contributions to England’s White-Ball Success
Hopkinson, who joined England’s coaching setup in 2018 as a fielding coach, has been instrumental in the team’s white-ball success. His tenure saw England claim their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2019 and another triumph at the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. Reflecting on his tenure, Hopkinson expressed pride in being part of two historic World Cup victories, stating:
“Being part of England’s coaching setup for seven years and contributing to two iconic World Cup wins has been a career highlight for me,” said Hopkinson in a statement from the ECB.
He also noted his involvement in guiding the U19 squad to their first World Cup final in 24 years alongside Richard Dawson.
Dawson’s Impact on Youth Development and Spin Bowling
Dawson joined England’s coaching setup ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup after previously leading the U19 team to the 2022 World Cup final. His expertise in nurturing young talent and working with elite spinners has significantly strengthened England’s spin bowling depth.
“Coaching the U19 team to a World Cup final and working with some of the best white-ball players in the world have been highlights of my career,” Dawson said. He expressed optimism about England’s white-ball team continuing to achieve success and lifting more trophies in the future.
ECB Recognizes Their Contributions
Rob Key, Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, praised Hopkinson and Dawson for their invaluable contributions. He highlighted their dual impact on both senior teams and youth development, saying:
“Hoppo and Daws are exceptional coaches who have been instrumental in England’s white-ball success. Their work with senior players and their development of young talent have left a lasting legacy.”
Key added that the foundation laid by the duo would benefit England cricket for years to come and wished them success in their future endeavors.
England’s White-Ball Legacy Continues
With Hopkinson and Dawson departing, England’s white-ball setup enters a new chapter under Brendon McCullum’s leadership. Their efforts in coaching and talent development have not only contributed to England’s recent success but also set the stage for the future.
