After an impressive performance in the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, Gujarat Giants skipper Beth Mooney has set her sights on claiming “some silverware” in the upcoming WPL 2025 season. Retained by the Giants, Mooney expressed her excitement about the team’s prospects in a video shared on the franchise’s social media handle. The Giants retained 14 players, including a mix of international stars and local talent, ahead of the 2025 WPL auction.

Mooney, the Australian cricket star, showcased her consistency in the previous season, finishing as Gujarat Giants’ top scorer with 285 runs at an impressive average of 47.50. Known for her skill and reliability, Mooney also had a strong outing in the recent Women’s T20 World Cup, where she accumulated 144 runs at an average of 36.00. In international ODIs, she has scored 2,380 runs with an exceptional average of 51.73, while in T20Is, her run tally stands at 3,003, averaging 39.50.
“So stoked to have been retained by the Gujarat Giants for WPL season 3. Looking forward to who we pick up in the auction later in the year. Hopefully, we can have a successful season in the next edition of the WPL and bring some silverware home! So keep following, keep supporting and keep believing,” Mooney shared.
Key Retained Players for the Gujarat Giants
Alongside Mooney, the Giants have retained several notable international players. Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, known for her powerful batting and effective bowling, remains a valuable asset for the team. Gardner played a crucial role in Australia’s 2020 T20 World Cup victory and was named Player of the Tournament in 2023, taking 10 wickets and scoring 110 runs.
South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, another prominent retention, brings solid batting prowess to the Giants. Wolvaardt led South Africa to the T20 World Cup final and was the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 224 runs.
Australia’s young talent Phoebe Litchfield has also been retained, adding depth to the Giants’ roster. Among the Indian players, Harleen Deol and Dayalan Hemalatha stand out as key contributors from the domestic pool.
