Virat Kohli Impresses with Bengali as Mehidy Hasan Gifts Bats; Rohit Sharma Shares Special Message

October 3, 2024

In a touching display of camaraderie, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma expressed their appreciation after receiving special gifts from Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Following the conclusion of the second Test in Kanpur, Mehidy, who has recently ventured into bat manufacturing, presented the Indian stalwarts with bats from his personal collection.

Kohli’s acceptance of the gift was accompanied by a heartwarming gesture as he responded in Bengali, saying “Khoob bhalo achi” (It’s very good), while holding the bat with a smile. His short but sweet message in the local language endeared him to fans. Kohli added, “Wish you all the best. Keep up the good work,” acknowledging the effort behind Mehidy’s bat business.

Rohit Sharma also received a bat from Mehidy, with both Indian players taking a moment to thank the Bangladesh cricketer for his thoughtful gesture. Mehidy, along with friends, recently launched a bat company and made sure to offer two of his finest products to Kohli and Sharma.

On the cricketing front, India completed a dominant 2-0 series sweep over Bangladesh in the World Test Championship (WTC), cementing their top spot in the standings. Despite weather disruptions, including two days of rain in Kanpur, India clinched a comfortable seven-wicket victory after previously winning the first Test in Chennai by a commanding 280 runs.

Rohit, though not at his best with the bat throughout the series, played a notable cameo in the Kanpur Test, scoring 23 off just 11 balls in an aggressive innings that earned praise from fans and experts. Kohli, too, rebounded from low scores in the first Test with solid performances in Kanpur, scoring 47 off 35 balls in the first innings and guiding India to victory with an unbeaten 29 in the second innings.

As India now looks ahead to a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, both Kohli and Rohit, who have retired from the shortest format, will take a short break before returning for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. Following that, the focus will shift to preparations for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a five-Test series in Australia.
