Xavi Simons, the 21-year-old Dutch midfielder, has extended his loan with RB Leipzig for an additional year. Simons, who showcased his talent with the Netherlands at Euro 2024 by scoring the opener in their 2-1 semi-final loss to England, had a stellar season with Leipzig last year.
Despite interest from Bayern Munich, Simons will remain with Leipzig, as confirmed by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Monday. However, PSG emphasized that the loan deal does not include an option to buy.
“Paris Saint-Germain wishes Xavi a wonderful season with RB Leipzig,” PSG stated.
Simons’ performances last season included eight goals and 13 assists in 32 Bundesliga matches, attracting attention from several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich. Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl, who was instrumental in bringing Simons to Leipzig, had previously lauded Simons as “outstanding” and expressed interest in signing him permanently.
Since joining PSG in 2019, Simons has made only seven Ligue 1 appearances for the club and also spent a season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.
