Gautam Gambhir, known for his fiery and intense demeanor, is set to bring a new level of aggression as he replaces the calm and collected Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Following India’s recent success in the T20 World Cup and final appearances in both the ICC World Cup and World Test Championship, Gambhir’s appointment has garnered reactions from cricketing greats like Dale Steyn, Shahid Afridi, and Jacques Kallis.
“I’m a big fan of Gautam Gambhir. I love his aggression; he’s one of the few Indians who would come back at you,” Steyn told Star Sports. “He’s going to bring that intensity into the dressing room. World cricket needs more players who are aggressive on the field yet gentlemanly off it. Gambhir is street-wise and very smart, making him fantastic for the Indian team.”
Jacques Kallis echoed Steyn’s sentiments, praising Gambhir’s cricketing intellect and passion. “Great to see Gauti stepping into coaching. He has a brilliant cricket brain and loves playing the game aggressively. He’ll add fire and valuable insights to the Indian team,” Kallis said.
Shahid Afridi also commended Gambhir, highlighting his straightforward and positive nature. “Whenever I hear Gambhir in interviews, he always speaks positively. He’s a very straightforward guy,” Afridi remarked.
Gambhir’s aggressive style and strategic mind are expected to infuse fresh energy and a competitive edge into the Indian cricket team.
